Joy of Chamber Music - LA Phil Musicians and Junko Ueno Garrett “Women Composers”
To commemorate Clara Schumann’s passing (September 13, 1819 - May 20, 1896), this program is dedicated to women composers. Regarded as one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era, Clara exerted her influence over the course of a 61-year concert career. Amy Beach (1867 - 1944) was the first successful American female composer of large-scale art music. She was one of the first American composers to succeed without the benefit of European training.

Clara Schumann: Piano Trio in G Minor, Op. 17
Amy Beach: Piano Quintet in F-sharp Minor,
Op. 67
“4 Hands on 1 Piano” Vicki Ray and Junko Ueno Garrett

Later, piano duets made their way into the concert hall as composers created works intended to exploit the possibilities of four hands playing on one piano. In this duet program, you will learn how great American composers have utilized this versatile style.
