The season opens with the concerto that pianist Alfred Brendel called “one of the greatest wonders of the world.” Mozart’s most beloved choral work follows, the Requiem, performed in memory of Stephen Gothold, First UMC’s music director from 1996 to 2013.

Piano duets began as a way to enjoy music at home before recorded music made that experience common. Later, piano duets made their way into the concert hall as composers created works intended to exploit the possibilities of four hands playing one piano. This program invites you to experience both: arrangements of non-piano music and pieces especially created for piano duet.

This annual holiday concert features choirs of all ages, the Modern Brass Quintet, handbells, the church’s majestic pipe organ and audience carols. Alongside a variety of carols old and new will be the premiere of a new carol medley by Aaron Shows, First UMC’s organist.
