To commemorate Clara Schumann’s passing (September 13, 1819 - May 20, 1896), this program is dedicated to women composers. Regarded as one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era, Clara exerted her influence over the course of a 61-year concert career. Amy Beach (1867 - 1944) was the first successful American female composer of large-scale art music. She was one of the first American composers to succeed without the benefit of European training.
